Cloud & DevOps
Infrastructure that is predictable to run and safe to change.
We design, migrate and operate cloud infrastructure your team can change without holding its breath — with costs you can forecast and releases that are routine rather than an event.
The situation
Why clients call us about this
Most businesses do not arrive with a cloud problem. They arrive with a symptom: a bill that grew faster than the business, a release process only one person understands, or an outage nobody could explain afterwards. Underneath is usually infrastructure that was set up quickly, by hand, under deadline pressure, and never revisited.
What changes afterwards
- A cloud bill you can explain line by line, and reduce deliberately rather than by guesswork
- Releases that happen on a normal workday instead of a weekend window
- Infrastructure defined in code, so it can be reviewed, rebuilt and audited
- Alerts that mean something, and runbooks your team can follow at 2am
- A tested recovery path, rather than an assumption that backups work
Capabilities
What this practice covers
Not every engagement uses all of it. We scope to the problem, not to the list.
Cloud migration and architecture
Moving workloads to AWS, Google Cloud or Azure with a written plan, a rollback path and a realistic cutover. We start from what your applications actually need, not from a reference diagram.
Infrastructure as code
Terraform modules that describe every environment, so staging genuinely resembles production and standing up a new environment takes minutes rather than a week of clicking through consoles.
CI/CD pipelines
Automated build, test and deployment pipelines with quality gates, staged rollouts, and a rollback that has been tested rather than theorised.
Containers and Kubernetes
Container platforms sized to your team. We are equally willing to tell you that managed services would serve your workload better than Kubernetes would.
Cost optimisation
Attribution of spend to teams and workloads, right-sizing, commitment planning, and removal of the resources nobody remembers provisioning.
Observability and reliability
Logging, metrics, tracing and alerting built around the failures that would genuinely hurt your business, with service levels agreed before they are measured.
Backup and disaster recovery
Recovery objectives agreed with the business, implemented, and then proven by actually restoring — not merely documented.
Deliverables
What you end up holding
Every item here is yours, in your systems, in a form your team can use without us.
- Current-state infrastructure assessment and risk register
- Target architecture with a written migration plan
- Terraform codebase covering all environments
- CI/CD pipelines with documented, tested rollback
- Monitoring dashboards, alert policies and on-call runbooks
- Cost baseline with a prioritised savings plan
- Handover sessions and architecture decision records

FAQ
Cloud & DevOps, answered directly
Do we have to move everything to the cloud at once?
No, and we would usually advise against it. Most migrations we run move one workload at a time, starting with something meaningful enough to prove the approach but contained enough that a rollback is cheap. Hybrid arrangements that run for a year are normal and fine.
Can you reduce our cloud costs without re-architecting everything?
Often, yes. A first pass on cost attribution, right-sizing, storage tiering and idle resources usually finds savings without touching application code. We will tell you plainly which further savings need architectural change and which do not, so you can decide what is worth doing.
Will our team be able to maintain this after you leave?
That is the point. Infrastructure lives as code in your repository, documented, and is handed over in working sessions with your engineers. If your team cannot operate it without us, we have not finished the job.
